Rightly Dividing the word of God!
Rom 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
As I was studying this chapter today, it really brought to light how grotesquely this passage of scripture is mis-interpreted in our world today. Evangelical’s quote this scripture to millions of people and allow them to think, this is all we have to do to be saved….hmmm seems simple enough. Yet, Paul admonished Young Timothy to rightly divide the word of truth. First, we must understand the word of God will not contradict itself, therefore the truth will stand, despite man’s opinion.
Now, I want you to see this verse within it’s proper context! If we go back to Ch. 9 v.33…we find Jesus Christ was the stumbling stone and rock of offense, because when he came to earth, his own received him not. They rejected that this man who called himself the messiah. It became a stumbling block to his own people.
Ch.10 picks up with the continuation of Israel rejecting Christ while on earth. Romans 10:3-4 say’s ” For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”
Paul is explaining to the Church in Rome how Israel rejected Christ, and they decided to stick with the law, they thought the works of the law is what made them righteous, yet that was the very thing that turned them into self-righteous Pharisees. Yet, Paul says that Christ was the fulfillment of the law to them that BELIEVED. In V.8 he goes on to say confession must come from the heart, and it must be by faith that He was the Christ, and that He was raised from the grave! It starts with faith in our hearts, and we must confess with our mouths the inward faith that we believe in Christ! Paul was reiterating to the church….it starts with belief in your heart, and what we believe in our heart always comes out of the spring of our bodies which is our mouth. THIS…..is man’s first step towards salvation….We must believe in Jesus Christ and believe he was resurrected and that my friend is the crucial step in reconciling yourself back to God’s original plan for man to be saved. This is the proper context in which Paul declared believing and confessing to be saved.
If you’ve been living your life with this notion, let me expound on the word that THERE IS MORE…..We must look to when the New Testament church began, Here, we will find the PLAN OF SALVATION MORE PERFECTLY…..If you have faith in God, let me encourage you to seek the full truth for salvation. It starts in the book of Acts…Anyone interested in MORE….feel free to contact me, my goal is to spread this precious Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to point man back to Heaven! God bless!
