Conquering Giants

The battle in the Valley of Elah is a depiction that captivates the mind, and gives us valuable lessons in dealing with the enemy! It was Israel against the Philistines: Righteousness against the ungodly! So today, we have Goliath’s in our life who taunt us, and try to intimidate us into complete surrender! The enemy loves to speak fear and hopelessness, and steal ground from us! However, I declare we are victorious over the enemy, sometimes all we need is a FRESH ANOINTING AND A NEW PERSPECTIVE!

Israel went 40 days listening to the taunts of Goliath, and no doubt the entire camp of the Philistines echoed the voice of defeat. By the 40th day, Goliath seemed so big in their mind, every time he came out to challenge them, they all fled like a bunch of cowards, including the leader of the pack, King Saul! All seemed hopeless! Meanwhile, just shortly before this happened, there was a little Shepherd boy who had been anointed to be the next King of Israel. What Israel needed was someone with a fresh anointing, and a godly perspective! We know the story, David comes up to the battle to bring food for his brothers and to check on their well being, and of course he followed the commotion like any teenage boy would do! David had no knowledge of Goliath, and I venture to say when he walked up and saw him, there was no fear or intimidation whatsoever in his mind because, WHEN WE HAVE FRESH ANOINTING, and THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE nothing seems too big for our God! That’s exactly how David saw Goliath: through the lens of God Almighty! David heard him defile and taunt the God of Israel, and it made his blood boil, and he decided to do something about it!

Now, something I wish to convey: The longer we allow the enemy to speak into our life, and the longer they have volume in our head, the larger they become to us. That’s why after 40 days Goliath seemed bigger than the God of Israel because their perspective was all out of whack, that’s what happens when we keep our focus on our problems and not the problem solver!! Israel chose to magnify the giant, instead of magnifying Jehovah! This is why we must drown out the voices of the enemy with PRAISE AND WORSHIP TO OUR GOD…This magnifies God, thus our enemy becomes dwarfed…Now, back to my story: A Fighting spirit rose up in David, and he decided to take the fight to the enemy! He didn’t look at Goliath as this great beast of a man, because God had already given him victories over a lion and a bear!!! No matter what David saw, HIS GOD WAS BIGGER THAN ANY GIANT HE MAY FACE! If the Lord has given you victory before, rest assure, He will do it again! As David was preparing to go to battle, he decided to use what God had given him: Saul tried putting his own armor on him, but it didn’t fit! Quit trying to be like other people, and quit trying to finesse yourself to be more spiritual: Take what the Lord has given you and use it for His Glory! If you’re an intercessor, hit your knees in prayer! If you have an anointed voice sing praises unto your King! If you have a calling to preach, Proclaim what thus Sayeth the Word of God and watch chains be broken! Be yourself, and use what the Lord has equipped you with! We all have a voice, so cry unto God with a loud voice; His ear is pointed in our direction! By the narration in I Samuel, it indicates that by this time, Goliath had moved to the side of Israel, and was heading their way. David wasted no time and declared he would be victorious because the Lord of Host would win the battle! Goliath not only had roughly 200 lbs of armor, but he also had a man go before him with a shield the size of an average man, so the odds were not in David’s favor, but when the Lord of Hosts goes before us and fights our battles, we shall prevail against the enemy! We know how the story ends, David whips his sling and cracks the skull of Goliath and finishes him off with his own sword!

What a story, it almost seems surreal, but that’s how the Lord works in our life: Sometimes, the enemy has us surrounded, sometimes all seems hopeless, but something MUST rise up in US and declare we are more than conquerors through Christ! Sometimes, all we need is a Fresh Anointing, and a New Perspective! Something needs to rise up in our human spirit that says enough is enough devil, I’m taking back everything you’ve stolen from me! That, coupled with the power of the Holy Ghost is going to enable you to be Victorious! May I encourage you to be radical in your worship, how about going to the prayer room, and coming to Church with EXPECTATION that you’re going to walk out with yokes destroyed and chains loosed! It’s time to defeat your Giants in the name of Jesus!  May the Lord be with you today!

God Bless, JDS
