Of all the women Matthew could have chosen to list in his opening Genealogy of Jesus Christ, he chose not to mention the prominent figures such as Sarah, Rachel, Rebekah, or Leah! Rather, he chose four women who had a less reputable image in Scripture: Women of no aristocratic blood to boast of. Tamar was known for stepping into the role of a prostitute to deceive her father in law. Rachab (Rahab) was known as a Harlot. Ruth was a Moabite woman with no pedigree to offer. Finally, we have the wife of Uriah (Bathsheba) a woman who carried the weight of committing Adultery with King David! I believe the message is simple: God loves to take the broken, the insignificant lives, the hurting, the shamed and by the Power of His wonder working Blood transform their life into vessels of honor. Vessels He can use and flow through! To think The Bloodline of Jesus Christ came through women such as this status gives us hope, that God can truly change the lives of anyone willing to surrender their life to Him! He truly is the God of Restoration!
