We All Need Handles In Our Life

We have heard the phrase, “you need to get a handle on that” or perhaps, “get a grip.” Meaning — you need to get control of the situation, or atleast come to an understanding of a certain situation.

We all need “handles” in our life. It is hard to open a drawer without handles!!! Car doors have a handle, so you can access the inside of the vehicle more easily…right?

In life, we must create our own “handles” — to help us navigate through life more easily. The handles of life can only be found in the Word of God. Solomon spoke on this subject many times. He referred to it as WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING.

To live in ignorance and simplicity, means to live life without handles. It is like trying to open doors without knobs and handles. If we lived in a house with no doorknobs, it would create needless frustrations on a daily basis. You may think that is absurd to think, but that is exactly what people do, when they attempt to live everyday life apart from the wisdom and understanding, that comes from the WORD OF GOD.

Solomon drops some knowledge on us like this:

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles. Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:1-7 (NLT)

The book of Proverbs is all about creating “handles” in our life!!

He continues — “My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.” Proverbs 1:8-9 (NLT)

Solomon continues…

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Proverbs 4:5-7 (KJV)

Proverbs 8:5 (KJV)
5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

Proverbs 16:16 (KJV)
16 How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Listen to the words of the APOSTLE PAUL — He understood the importance of creating handles in his life…

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJV)

If life is constantly bringing you pain from the decisions you are making, it is time to “get a handle” on it. Look no further than God’s Holy Word!
